How To: Delete and Uninstall Applications

Deleting and Uninstall Application

Deleting or uninstalling an app comes in a variety of flavors. There’s the app you installed from the internet, apps installed via Apple Store and apps installed via installers.

Deleting and App (downloaded from the internet)

This is probably the most common situation and a very simple solution, but you might have to look in two locations.

  1. Open finder
  2. Press <cmd> + <shift> + G on the keyboard and type /Applications

    1. You may also need to look in ~/Applications
  3.  Search for the application, for example “App”

Deleting an App (from the App Store)

This is the second most common scenario and probably the easiest.

  1. Press <cmd>+<space> to open Spotlight and search for Launchpad, press <enter>
  2. Click and search for the app (e.g. Pomodoro)
  3. Click and hold on the icon
  4. Click the X
  5. Confirm the deletion

Delete an App (from an installer)

There are very few scenarios these days for this, but they exist and it’s quite difficult to do. In short you need to search for the app (i.e. VirtualBox) using your favorite search engine. However, we’d recommend checking out this blog which focuses on uninstalling apps like this:
