How To : Change your Mac Desktop

Most of us keep that serene blue that Apple provides for our Mac default desktop, or change out favorite vacation photos. If you aren’t familiar with changing this background, here are some simple steps to keep things fresh on your desktop.

  1. Under the apple icon on your menu bar, choose System Preferences.
  2. Under the ‘Personal’ heading, click on the ‘Desktop & Screen Saver’ button. Once you select the Desktop button, folders that contain images that would work as your desktop will show up in the left side of the window. Thumbnails of the artwork in the selected folders will show up in the right side of the window.
  3. Changing your desktop is as simple as clicking on the thumbnail that you like best! Take note that under the Apple folder in the left window, various folders hold images of nature, plants, art, patterns and solid colors.

System Preferences WindowIf you use iPhoto, this application will also come up in the left window as having options to use as a desktop background. To use a photo from iPhoto, begin by selecting iPhoto in the left window and thumbnails of all your photos will appear in the right window.
